But, there’s still the fact that my time hasn’t freed up in the way I was imagining, and I have had little opportunity to work on the regular content here, let alone the goals I have for TSDK in the long-term. Firstly, on a positive note, the way that my readers and engagers have picked up again has been incredibly inspiring, and I’m thankful for every one of you who take the time out of their week to see what I have going on over here. Since I’ve started up again here at Tha Soup Dude’s Kitchen, things… haven’t quite gone the way I thought they would to put it lightly. Please consider investing in these artists when you can! Whether it’s purchasing a digital copy of an album (which can be pretty inexpensive), copping a physical copy of an album (CD’s, Vinyls, cassettes for y’all weird people), or taking a look at the merchandise the artist offers (hats, stickers, shirts, etc.), every single bit helps these guys continue to bring y’all dope music. You can see down below how I structure these posts: I put the streaming only releases up first, then the projects with links to direct purchase next, and end with projects that I had covered before but only recently were put on streaming. Most of what we’re looking at this week is from the underground sector, which means that they will have options to support the artists directly. We only got 6 projects to take a look at this time, but each one is worth their weight in gold. Īnother week, another round of killer projects from hip-hops’ premier talents. Click here to see a list of previous Fixes. The final section will be for projects that have had a Hot Deal-type release, but have recently come to streaming. The next section will be devoted to projects that have Bandcamp or online webstore links, to give a greater highlight to those artists who you can support directly. I’ll give a little blurb about the project/single with my feelings on it thrown in there, throw some descriptors and other artists names to give you an idea what the project/single is like, and link to all applicable streaming services where you can find the music. Beacoups respects everytime to Yasiin, Preservation & Downtown Records–and to the rest of you, you are all very welcome.Welcome to the Weekly Fix, where I go over everything that I’ve listened to that has come out within the past week. Preservation came by the secret underground OKP headquarters earlier this year to play us some of the stuff he’s got in the works so I can say from firsthand knowledge this is going to be a banger…the album drops on Pres’ newly-established Mon Dieu Music imprint this summer–scroll down to watch a trailer for the comp with more info. Specifically: following closely on the heels of The REecstatic is the a debut compilation from Preservation, titled Old Numbers and featuring (yes) Yasiin Bey, as well as Jean Grae, Edo G, Jemini the Gifted One, Jim Jarmusch, Minnesota, 32 FX, Yahzeed, & Milly Mango. The REctatic is only one of a series of projects Preservation has been perculating on like a quiet dog waiting for the right moment to go full Baha-Men with it. The full album download will be available mid-May…so Yasiin obsessives mark your eye-calendars with a big fatty marker.īUT WAIT…it gets better. The official remix album– The REcstatic–is presented by Pres in conjunction with Downtown Records and will feature re-imaginings of all 16 tracks from the original plus one bonus cut, an unreleased vocal take of Bey’s hit single “Casa Bey” (featuring production by Minnesota). Even better we get to break the news that Preservation has taken on the mission of fully remixing The Ecstatic album from top to bottom, from the outer groove to the inner. World Puh-puh Premiere! OKP is amped to bring you this banging re-work of Yasiin Bey fka Mos Def‘s “Quiet Dog Bite Hard” from DJ Preservation–Bey’s DJ and Producer ( Tru3Magic, The Ecstatic) not to mention our homie and something of a secret weapon in the world of hip-hop.
